Pain is our body’s way of alerting the brain that something is going wrong. The fact that it’s uncomfortable is what makes it so persuasive in making us take our hand off a hot stove, stepping off broken glass, or adjusting a Yoga pose.  But when pain becomes long term – or chronic – it actually causes changes to our brain and nervous system that deeply effect our emotional well-being. This is one of the reasons that Therapeutic Yoga has been proven so effective for people suffering from chronic pain. Yoga directly effects the nervous system and helps people find physical and emotional relief.

Watch this short video! Neuroscientist Stephani Sutherland PhD explains how chronic pain can become a mental disorder.
